Kevin Miller: B.M. Jazz Studies Performance/Music Education
In 2020, Kevin received a dual degree in Jazz Guitar Performance and Music Education from The New School for Jazz. In 2023, Kevin’s first music theory book, Outside Sounds and Substitutions for Modern Jazz Guitar, was published by Mel Bay.
Professional Experience:
Kevin is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. He has had the good fortune of playing with musical legends such as Rodney Jones, Buster Williams, Dickey Betts, Gregg Allman, and Matthew Shipp.
Kevin has been a music educator for more than a decade. Though he is also a performer and music theory author, he has always prioritized bringing along the next generation of musicians.
Kevin’s ultimate goal as a music educator is to pass on the torch of knowledge and wisdom he has gleaned from his idols to his own students.
Teaching Philosophy:
Kevin Miller is a dedicated and focused teacher who finds joy, purpose, and fulfillment in helping people make progress along their musical journey.
During lessons, Kevin strives to develop an open dialogue with students, bringing them into the empowering conversation of cultivating their musical talents. Rather than taking a didactic approach, Kevin thinks of his students as equal partners in their education. He’s found this strategy to work exceptionally well for his students, whether they’re four years old or eighty.
